Empty Shell Girl

I am really excited to share a recording of Amy Beth Kirsten’s Empty Shell Girl, for solo marimba:

Stream it!

Here’s what Amy says about the piece:

I composed this piece for my friend Mike Compitello back in 2007 when I was thinking a lot about memory - how our memories change over time; how things are forgotten; how sometimes different moments run together and become indistinguishable. The piece is structured in three movements: I. now; II. then; and III. ...now and then...

I recorded Empty Shell Girl in 2014 at Oktaven Audio, and have been waiting for a good time and space to release it. The end of the longest year in many of our memories seemed like the opportune time to reflect on loss and our relationship to those around us.

For those interested, the score can be found at Amy’s website. Happy listening!
